Occupy Bath returned to Queen Square for a meal on Bank Holiday Monday to regroup and to discuss future activities.
Despite heavy rain, over 25 people attended, bringing food for the cooking pot under a large gazebo. Rather than cooking individually at home, by cooking together they saved money and energy and created a social environment, which they encourage others to do also in these hard economic times.
While the meal was cooking, several occupiers went into the town centre, distributing leaflets about the meal and the Occupy Movement. This is the first of several temporary occupations lined up for early 2012.
Colin Davis, 31, who has been involved in Occupy Bath since the start had the following to say: “I’ve had to take a pay cut at work, many people I know have. Food and energy costs are rising and the economic forecast for the 99% isn’t looking good for 2012. As well as standing up for economic fairness, people also need to get together and share more, to reduce costs and energy consumption. I hope that our meal today – which was very tasty and healthy – will encourage others to do likewise“.
Another occupier gave the following statement: “It was great to catch up with
people and experience our first successful pop-up camp, and to see that
the Occupy spirit still lives on in us all for 2012!“.
