During International Compost Awareness Week (4th-10th May), the Council is holding a series of events to encourage residents to make their gardens more environmentally–friendly.
There will be a ‘greener garden’ pop-up window display at 9 Westgate Street, Bath, until Monday 11th May.
You’ll be able to view practical ideas to make your garden more sustainable with compost bins, water butts and ideas for re-using everyday containers for growing plants.
Composting roadshows where you can view composting bins and get tips and advice on home composting from the Council’s Waste Campaigns team will take place as follows:
- Friday 8th May, Green Park Station, Bath – 11-3pm;
- Saturday 9th May, Keynsham Farmers’ Market, Market Walk, 9am-1pm;
- Friday 15th May, Morrisons, London Rd, Bath, 11am – 2.30pm;
- Friday 29th May, Sainsbury’s, Odd Down, Bath, 11am – 2.30pm.
“Home composting is a great way to reduce the amount of organic kitchen waste that goes into your household rubbish bin or food recycling collection,” said Lorinda Trebaczyk, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Campaigns Manager.
“More than 30% of the average household waste can be composted and although many households already compost at home, we want others to get involved.”
Through a partnership with getcomposting.com, the Council is also giving residents the chance to buy discounted compost converter bins.
