Bath and North East Somerset Council have received a planning application for three new retail units to be developed in the site next to the new Lidl store on the Lower Bristol Road.
The plans have revealed that Poundland, and two other retailers are likely to occupy space in the unused side of the former Herman Miller building.
Costa is planning a separate unit from the three stores, but will remain on the same site.
The building had been standing empty for over seven years until Lidl began their refurbishment of the site last summer.
A great deal of damage had been caused by vandals in the time the building was unoccupied.
Lidl have confirmed that they have no objection to the Poundland store opening next to them, and consider a ‘single price point’ retailer as being complementary to the growth of their business.
The new Lidl store opened this morning at 8am, bringing the discount supermarket chain to the city for the first time.
A consultation response from Highways Officers at B&NES Council has also revealed plans for the Lower Bristol Road to be widened to incorporate the introduction of a bus lane in the future.
