Students moving out of their properties for the summer are being encouraged to think green as part of a new campaign being led by Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The Council has teamed up with the Student Community Partnership, University of Bath, Bath Spa University and the British Heart Foundation to provide information about how to present waste clearly and where to donate those unwanted items that are often thrown away at the end of term.
Students are being encouraged to plan ahead, sort and recycle as much as possible, donate any unwanted items that may be re-used including any unopened food to Bath Food Bank; use the recycling centres for large items and any extra black sack rubbish (students must take their student ID card along) and clear front and rear gardens to stop large amounts of rubbish being left behind.
Reusable rubbish sacks should be used if properties already have them.
Cllr Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Our new Council Administration is working with our communities to improve awareness and the cleanliness of public spaces.
“We want to encourage an even greater familiarity with and commitment to recycling.”
A number of roadshows have already been held on and off campus, and a door knocking campaign will take place in Oldfield Park and Westmoreland in the coming weeks, providing information and British Heart Foundation donation bags.
There were also pop-up shops in the Scala Co–op Car Park in Shaftesbury Road, Bath on 27th & 28th May, between 12 – 2 pm where the team was on hand to answer any questions and provide information on donating items and the Council’s recycling and rubbish collections.
