A six-month project in Peasedown to assist the more frail, elderly and disabled members of the community, has come to an end and seen several new dropped kerbs across the village.
Arranged by Cllr Nathan Hartley, the new kerbs have been placed in several key areas where residents cross the road.
Nathan said: “Hillcrest and Idwal Close are two of our important sheltered housing areas in Peasedown St John.
“Many elderly people live here, so I’m always keen to see what can be done to ensure they have a good quality of life and access to services.
“I’m grateful to Curo Housing for helping us to get these new dropped kerbs in place.”
The project is part of a wider initiative in the village where community leaders are working with the housing association to make sure their tenets are better informed about issues that affect to them.
Recently, Cllr Nathan Hartley met with Curo Housing’s Repair Team manager to discuss the backlog of repair and maintenance issues highlighted by Peasedown St John residents.
Local campaigner Karen Walker commented: “Curo Housing have made great strides since they were set up two years ago, but a lot more work still needs to be done to ensure their tenants, which total several hundred in Peasedown St John, feel proud of the home they live in and the way their neighbourhood looks.
“Nathan and I liaise with residents often, and regularly pass on issues that Curo need to act on. These new dropped kerbs were the result of Curo, residents and community leaders working together.”
