For the first time ever, a popular local radio show on Somer Valley FM will broadcast live from local village Peasedown St John.
Launched in 2009, following on from a radio project linked with Somervale School in Midsomer Norton, the station has gone from strength to strength.
In 2012, Peasedown St John local councillors, community activists and festival organisers Karen Walker and Jo Davis decided to give Sunday afternoons with their families a miss, and since have hosted a monthly magazine show covering all issues relating to women.
Full of musical favourites, phone-ins and chat, Peasedown’s Loose Women were born.
Pete Helmore of Somer Valley FM said: “Karen and Jo have brought that added extra to Somer Valley FM. Their humour and willingness to talk about a range of hard-hitting issues have brought the station new listeners.
“We’re looking forward to broadcasting Peasedown’s Loose Women live from Beacon Hall. Who knows what is going to happen?!”
Karen said: “Peasedown’s Loose Women is a chance for us, and our listeners, to unwind and take a break after the busyness of a hectic week. Over two hours will look back at events and news from the previous month, play some of our favourite songs, and share some funny stories – all from a light hearted perspective.
“Men are welcome to listen in, but should be prepared to hear the news from a woman’s perspective!
“Our live phone-ins allow anyone to share their thoughts on marriage, raising children, and how to stay looking younger, for longer.”
The live broadcast on Sunday 27th April from 12noon – 2pm at Beacon Hall is open to all local residents. Members of community groups, faith groups and event organisers are welcome to pop into the studio to promote their Peasedown-related news.
The broadcast ties in with the recent re-positioning of the Somer Valley FM antenna – meaning that almost 7,000 Peasedown residents can now listen to the station through their analogue radios at 97.5FM.
Jo added; “We’ll be featuring news about the 20 mile sponsored walk to Cheddar on May 3rd, the new Fund for Peasedown initiative, Party in the Park 2014, the latest about Greenlands Road housing news and much more. Want to broadcast live to the village? Pop in on Sunday to give it a go.”
Peasedown’s Loose Women will broadcast live from Beacon Hall, Peasedown St John on Sunday 27st April at 12 noon on Somer Valley 97.5 FM.
Listeners can also tune in online and can even ‘listen again’ for 21 days after the recording at www.somervalleyfm.co.uk
Dom Chambers, Somer Valley FM’s Station Manager added: “Community radio empowers individuals to shine through the potent medium of radio and get their voice heard across the region the care about.
“Peasedown’s Loose Women, Karen and Jo, are great examples of fantastic radio talent that are the backbone of new style local broadcasting under the Somer Valley FM model.”
