TV historian Dan Snow is to call on the public in Bath today to make their voice heard on the future of Scotland as the referendum campaign enters the final month.
Dan Snow will be on Old Bond Street, outside Russell and Bromley, welcomed by Councillor Paul Crossley, to call on local people to add their name to the coalition of British celebrities saying to Scotland “let’s stay together”.
Tens of thousands of people from across the UK have already added their names to the open letter.
Those who can’t attend in person can sign up online at www.letsstaytogether.org.uk.
Notable public figures including Sir Mick Jagger, Dame Judi Dench, Sir David Attenborough and Tom Daley have all been brought together by Dan Snow and fellow TV Historian Tom Holland to say to Scotland: “We want to let you know how very much we value our bonds of citizenship with you, and to express our hope that you will vote to renew them.
“What unites us is much greater than what divides us. Let’s stay together.”
The over two hundred celebrity signatories to the letter make clear that they fully respect that this is a decision for the Scottish people but “that decision will have a huge effect on all of us in the rest of the United Kingdom.”
They have now been joined by tens of thousands of members of the public, who have signed up online and on the tour.
Dan Snow, who co-organised the letter with TV Historian Tom Holland, said in advance of his visit: “I feel passionately about Britain and everything we’ve achieved together throughout our long shared history across these islands. I don’t have a vote in the Scottish referendum but
“I certainly have a view and I really hope that our shared country stays together.
“That’s why I’ve brought together a list of people who represent the best of British and share that view. But more than the celebrities, this is the view of the majority of people in the rest of the UK.
“That’s why I’m leading a tour across the regions and nations of the rest of the UK to ensure that people sign up to the Let’s Stay together campaign at www.letsstaytogether.org.uk.”
Since the launch, Dan has taken the letter across the country, to East London, Corby, Manchester, Birmingham, Southampton and Cardiff, and tens of thousands have already signed up.
