A woman was airlifted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath yesterday afternoon after a number of carriages on the Longleat Adventure Park train overturned.
Six people were injured when two of the carriages at the back of the miniature train came off the track at 3.40pm, with one ending up on its side.
The crash happened as the train was coming into the park’s main square. Wiltshire Fire and Rescue responded to the incident, assisting staff with their emergency procedures.
Five people were described as ‘walking wounded’, and were treated at the scene by paramedics.
A number of people on the carriages at the front of the train worked together to lift the overturned carriage enough to free people who’d been trapped inside.
The woman airlifted to the RUH was described as having leg fractures and was taken by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Longleat Adventure Park issued a statement following the crash, saying: “Staff are currently undertaking a thorough investigation into what caused the incident and the railway will remain closed during this time.”
